After successfully defending my Ph.D. thesis, I took some time to reconnect with my initial research interests, particularly military history. This period of reflection was invaluable as I navigated my next career steps and rekindled my passion for the field. I’m thrilled to share that this journey has been rewarding—three of my recent articles have been accepted in high-ranking journals, and my latest book is set to be published in the coming months. In addition, I’m honored to be giving a virtual lecture for the RAF Museum this June. My talk will explore the battle for Maleme Airfield in 1941, drawing from two years of extensive archival research. A huge thank you to the organizers for this opportunity! Edward Hallett Carr is widely regarded as one of the most influential historians of the Cold War era. Rooted in the liberal intellectual tradition he absorbed as a student in the immediate post-Victorian years, Carr’s work is characterized by its optimism and unwavering faith in the theory of progress, themes he systematically articulated in his lectures. His opposition to the prevailing academic norms of his time, which discouraged engagement with Soviet history, positioned him among a pioneering cohort of historians who championed the scientific rigor of historical inquiry despite potential career risks. This boldness inspired subsequent scholars, including Professor John Plumb, to develop innovative perspectives on history and its methodologies.

After the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca, several ships of these islands took advantage of the right to sail under the Russian flag. During the Napoleonic Wars, several sailors became rich, trading grain in British-blockaded Europe. This prompted them to equip themselves and become skilled warriors to face potential pirate raids.

Is the lack of aesthetics one of the most dangerous traps in our society, or does the question reflect a sense of traditionalism?
